In Excel, Perspectives are a feature that simplifies pivot table management by allowing users to create customized views of their data. This functionality helps to reduce clutter and focus on specific data aspects. Similarly, the Perspectives feature in Catalyst® by EBM enhances reporting by minimizing the number of measures displayed in your pivot tables, making navigation more efficient and tailored to your needs. This article will guide you through enabling and configuring Perspectives, both for clients and internal admins.
Benefits of Using Perspectives
- Enhanced User Experience: Streamlines pivot table field lists by hiding irrelevant measures.
-
Less Clutter: Minimizes confusion with non-essential measures.
-
Flexibility: Allows custom measures to be unhidden upon request for specific reporting needs.
Default Fields
By default, your tabular cubes will show the following measures:
-
Financial Tabular Cubes: Activity, Ending Balance, % of Net Sales
-
Profitability Tabular Cubes: Amount
Note: You may see additional measures pulled from Power BI, which are usually unnecessary for Excel. To optimize usability, it's best to reduce the number of fields displayed in Excel.
Adding Calculated Measures Manually
Clients can manually add calculated measures directly in Catalyst without needing to go through support:
-
For Financial Tabular Cubes: Go to Administration > Hierarchies > Account Hierarchy > Calculated Measures.
-
For Profitability Tabular Cubes: Go to Administration > Hierarchies > Profitability Account Hierarchy > Calculated Measures.
Steps to Enable Perspectives (For Clients)
Since only admins can configure the Perspectives feature, here’s how to request and enable it:
Submit a Support Request
If you don't have admin access, submit a request to support@ebmsoftware.com or through the EBM Support website. Be sure to include your instance URL, and specify which additional measures you'd like included in the Perspectives setup.
Request Default Perspectives Configuration
Perspectives are enabled by default for all new Catalyst instances. However, if your instance was migrated to Azure, manual configuration may be necessary. Our support team can assist in setting up the default fields if they aren't already enabled.
