Error Message: Anything related to Microsoft Excel Macros.
Note: As of 2022, Microsoft will begin to harden security for Macro Enabled documents and Trusted Locations, eventually sunsetting Macros entirely. Check out these instructions to stay ahead of this.
Enabling Macros
To work correctly, EBM and Catalyst connected files require that macros are enabled. If you experience issues with your file not prompting for credentials or simply not connecting to the data, ensure the following:
How to enable Macros
- The file you are working with is a Macro Enabled Spreadsheet. Macro Enabled Spreadsheets are saved with a .xlsm extension. If the EBM Office Bridge file is ever saved as a standard .xlsx or .xlm file type, the macros are removed and that file will no longer contain the logic to connect to the cubes.
- Macros are allowed to run in Excel. MS Office provides the user with many options regarding enabling/disabling macros. Companies may have policies in place restricting the usage of macros in MS Office files, so if you encounter issues you cannot fix on your own in MS Office, consult with your system admin. The recommended configurations are:
- Macro Settings = "Disable all macros with notification".
- To set this option use the following menu path: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
- With the "Trust Center Settings" window open, select Macro Settings > "Disable all macros with notification"
- Finally, to ensure that the notifications are displayed when you open the macro enabled files, select the Message Bar > "Show the Message Bar in all..." option
- If the above changes don't help the issue, please try enabling Trusted Locations or manually trusting an individual document via File Properties.
- To set this option use the following menu path: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
- Macro Settings = "Disable all macros with notification".
