IMPORTANT: Most Catalyst environments now use Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO) for authentication. This means passwords are no longer managed by EBM or within the Catalyst interface. Users log in using their organization's Microsoft credentials, and password changes must be handled internally by your IT team.
Changing Your Password
If your Catalyst environment uses Microsoft SSO (the current default), you will not see a "Change Password" option in Catalyst. Instead, users must update their password through their organization’s Microsoft tools, such as:
- Or your company’s internal IT helpdesk or portal
If you're unsure whether your environment uses SSO or not, contact EBM Support for confirmation.
Legacy Environments (Non-SSO)
In rare cases where Catalyst is still using an older, non-SSO login system, users and admins may still have access to password-related functions.
To Change Your Own Password (Legacy Only)
- Click the dropdown menu next to your name in the top right corner of Catalyst.
- Select Change Password.
- Enter your new password twice, then click Submit.
To Change Another User’s Password (Legacy Admin Feature)
If you’re an admin and still using a legacy environment, you can change another user’s password by impersonating them:
- Go to Administration → User Management → User.
 - Locate the user and click the Impersonate User icon (blue person) on the right-hand side.
 - You’ll be redirected to the Catalyst homepage, now impersonating that user.
- Click the dropdown menu in the top right and select Change Password.
- After updating the password, click the dropdown menu again and choose End Impersonation to return to your own account.
Â
Note: These steps are only available in legacy login environments. Admins cannot change passwords for users in SSO-enabled environments.
Saving Your Credentials in Excel
Current Behavior with Microsoft SSO
Catalyst now uses Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO), which significantly improves the login experience for Excel-based cube access:
- You no longer need to enter your email and password each time you open an Excel file.
- Once authenticated, Catalyst will remember your login—especially if you're already signed in to other Microsoft tools like Outlook, Teams, or OneDrive.
- You’ll only be asked to log in again after a period of inactivity, due to a standard Microsoft session timeout.
Tip: Stay signed in to your Microsoft account across your browser and Office apps to minimize re-authentication prompts.
Legacy Cube Behavior (Pre-SSO)
In older Catalyst environments that haven’t been migrated to Microsoft SSO:
- You may still be prompted to manually enter your email and Catalyst password each time you open an Excel cube file.
- A common workaround was to keep at least one logged-in Excel window open in the background. As long as that session remained active, any additional cube files opened would not prompt for login again.
If you're unsure whether you're using an SSO-enabled cube file or a legacy one, contact support@ebmsoftware.com and we’ll confirm.
For the best experience and improved security, EBM recommends using a Microsoft SSO-enabled Catalyst environment. Reach out to your EBM representative or Support to learn more about upgrading.
