Smartload provides built-in status monitoring so you can track cube processing, identify issues, and know when your data is ready for analysis. This guide covers where to find status information and how to interpret what you see.

Where to Find Smartload Status
Smartload cube status is available in three locations within Catalyst, each serving a different purpose:
Smartload Interface
The Smartload section within Catalyst shows detailed processing status for each cube—including when it was last processed, whether processing succeeded or failed, and any error messages. This is where users with Smartload access go to monitor and refresh their cubes.
Analysis Page
The Analysis page where you download cubes displays status indicators for Smartload cubes—showing whether a cube is currently building, when it was last refreshed, or if the last build failed. This gives all users visibility into cube availability without needing Smartload access.
Catalyst System Status Page
The traditional System Status page under Administration primarily manages L3 consolidated cubes (Financial and Profitability). However, it may also contain ad-hoc jobs related to Smartload—particularly jobs that push planning data from L3 cubes into L2 Smartload cubes.
Monitoring Status in Smartload
Within the Smartload interface, you can see processing status for your cubes directly in the fact table section. This is the primary location for monitoring Smartload cube health.
What You'll See
Each cube displays:
- Last Processed: When the cube was last successfully built
- Processing Status: Whether the cube is current, processing, or failed
- Error Messages: If processing failed, details about what went wrong
Users with appropriate access can trigger a cube rebuild directly from this interface when needed—for example, after uploading new data or making structural changes to tables.
đź’ˇ Tip
For step-by-step instructions on processing cubes, see Creating and Managing Fact Tables.
Status on the Analysis Page
The Analysis page (where users download cubes) includes a Smartload cubes section that shows basic status information for all Smartload cubes you have access to. This is useful for users who don't have direct Smartload access but need to know whether their cube is ready.
Status Indicators
You may see indicators showing:
- Building: The cube is currently being processed
- Last Refreshed: Timestamp of the most recent successful build
- Failed: The last processing attempt did not complete successfully
If a cube shows as failed or hasn't been refreshed recently, contact your Smartload administrator or submit a support request.
Catalyst System Status Page
The traditional Catalyst System Status page (found under Administration) was built before Smartload existed and primarily handles L3 consolidated cubes—the standard Financial and Profitability cubes.
However, as Smartload adoption grows, this page increasingly includes Smartload-related jobs:
Planning Data Integration (L3 → L2)
The Catalyst Planning Portal creates plans and forecasts in L3 consolidated cubes. For organizations that primarily work with Smartload cubes (L2), EBM can configure ad-hoc jobs that push planning data from L3 down to L2.
đź”— What This Means
When these jobs run, users downloading L2 Smartload cubes will see their Catalyst planning data alongside operational data—available in filters, scenarios, and selections within Excel.
If your organization has these integration jobs configured, you can trigger them from the System Status page using the Run Job button in the ad-hoc jobs section.
Other Smartload-Related Jobs
Depending on your configuration, the System Status page may also include other data integration jobs that feed into or interact with Smartload cubes. Check with your EBM representative if you're unsure what jobs are available for your instance.
Understanding Cube Levels
For context, Catalyst organizes data across different levels:
The System Status page was designed for L3 processing, while Smartload manages L1 and L2 cubes directly. As Smartload becomes more integrated with Catalyst workflows, you may see more overlap between these systems.
Common Issues
Check the Smartload interface for error details. Common causes include data validation errors, relationship issues, or DAX formula problems. See Troubleshooting Smartload Issues.
Smartload cubes don't refresh automatically unless scheduled. Check with your administrator or manually trigger a rebuild from the Smartload interface.
If you expect planning data in your L2 cube, check whether the L3→L2 integration job has run. Go to the Catalyst System Status page and look for relevant ad-hoc jobs.
Related Resources
Smartload cube status is primarily monitored within the Smartload interface, with additional visibility on the Analysis page. The traditional Catalyst System Status page remains relevant for L3 processing and any ad-hoc jobs that integrate planning data or other sources with your Smartload cubes.
