This guide will help you access Smartload, navigate its interface, and understand the core components you'll work with. Whether you're managing data from a single ERP or consolidating multiple sources, this introduction covers everything you need to get started.
Accessing Smartload
Once Smartload is enabled by your EBM representative, you'll find it in the Catalyst navigation menu towards the bottom left of the screen, clearly labeled for easy access.
Don't See Smartload?
If Smartload doesn't appear in your navigation, it may not be enabled for your organization or your user account. Contact your EBM representative to request access. Administrators can also hide Smartload from specific users if needed.
Understanding the Interface
The Smartload interface is organized into four main sections, each serving a specific purpose in your data management workflow.
Fact Table Interface Details
Key elements of the Fact Tables view:
Chain icon shows connected tables. Hover to see details.
Shows total rows and creation date (e.g., "Rows: 150,000")
Last successful refresh and hierarchy link status
Blue = built and ready; White = not yet processed
A white cube icon doesn't mean the data isn't being used. Tables with zero rows may be awaiting development or feeding into higher-level consolidated cubes. If a table has rows but a white cube, it's likely used elsewhere in Smartload—investigate before removing.
Understanding Data Levels (L1, L2, L3)
Smartload organizes data into three levels, each serving different analytical needs. Understanding these levels helps you choose the right approach for your use case.
Raw Data
Single ERP source with minimal processing
Consolidated
Multi-ERP or multi-source combination
Catalyst Cubes
Standardized cubes with validation
Data Flow: L1 → L2 → L3
Data typically flows from L1 (raw source) through L2 (consolidated) to L3 (standardized), with each level adding structure and business logic. Attribute tables can link to data at any level.
