EBM Technical Requirements

Below are recommendations and requirements for setting up your EBM instance to ensure software compatibility across your organization:

  1. Web-based Access: Catalyst is accessible via any web browser, but to utilize Catalyst data in outputs like Excel or Power BI Desktop, a Windows environment is required.
  2. Machine Preference: Windows PCs are strongly recommended. Our Excel cube functionality requires a Windows environment, and we don’t support running Catalyst natively on macOS. If you use a Mac, you’ll need to install Windows to meet our requirements. You can do this in a few ways:

    • Boot Camp (Intel Macs only): Partition your hard drive to run Windows natively.

    • Virtual Machine: Use virtualization software (such as Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, or VirtualBox) to run Windows inside macOS.

    • Remote Access: Connect to a Windows machine provided by your company or hosted in the cloud.

  3. Operating System (OS): Windows 10 or later is required to use Catalyst’s Excel cube functionality.

    • If you’re on a Mac, you’ll need to run Windows 10 (or later) through one of the supported methods listed above (Boot Camp, virtual machine, or remote access). Catalyst isn’t supported on macOS without a Windows environment.

  4. Microsoft Office 365: Optimal compatibility with our software's Excel cube functionality necessitates the use of the latest version of Microsoft Office 365. While other versions may work, seamless navigation of the cube is not guaranteed without the most current updates installed to align with our backend server's specifications.
  5. EBM Excel Add-in: This add-in facilitates the primary connection required for your files to connect to Catalyst and the data lake. Refer to installation and troubleshooting details for guidance.
  6. VBA Macros: Legacy macros from EBMOfficeBridge.xlsm files must be enabled and unrestricted if not using the EBM Excel add-in. Users should have the ability to Enable Macros and Enable Content when prompted. Companies may have their own policies on macros; consult your local IT department for assistance in excluding EBM Software Macros from restrictions.
  7. Antivirus Rules: Antivirus software compatibility should be validated by IT System Administrators through testing our software to ensure seamless functionality without any conflicts.
  8. Firewall Rules: Exceptions should be added to firewall settings to allow our software and corresponding websites to operate smoothly on your devices, networks, and machines.
  9. Domain Whitelisting: Ensure that users can access our websites without automatic blocking or restrictions. Primary website domain URLs will be provided upon implementation, including additional websites, domains, and email addresses that require whitelisting.
