Microsoft AAS Issue Causing Cube Rebuild Failures and Temporary Downtime

Overview

A Microsoft Azure Analysis Services (AAS) issue is causing rebuilds for certain cube types to hang, requiring EBM to manually reboot the server to restore performance.

User Impact:

• The reboot will occur today 6/3/25 between 4:00–4:30 p.m. CST.

• Expected downtime is under 15 minutes, often just a few minutes.

• Only cubes are affected. Your dashboards and reports in Excel and Power BI may show errors if refreshed or interacted with during this window.

• Websites and all other services remain accessible.

• We recommend not making any cube changes during the reboot window, including filtering, refreshing, or editing.

Background

This issue originates from a Microsoft bug that causes the AAS server to hang when rebuilding specific cube types. Microsoft is actively investigating, and we’ve reiterated the urgency. Until a fix is provided, reboots are the only resolution.
