This guide provides detailed instructions for accessing EBM Software workspaces and datasets using Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop. It also explains how to ensure the "From External Orgs" button appears in Power BI Service.

Requirements
- To follow this article and perform actions in Power BI Desktop, you must have a Power BI Pro license.
- While you don’t need a license to view dashboards embedded in Catalyst or to view reports, you will need a Pro license if you want to build, create, and publish reports or dashboards. Therefore, this article only applies to users looking to create and publish their own reports. Be sure you have a Pro license ($10/month) before proceeding.
- If you don't have a Pro license, you can sign up for a free 60-day trial.
Using Power BI Service
Viewing EBM Workspaces
When logging into Power BI Service, any EBM Software-owned workspaces you've been granted access to will appear under the "From External Orgs" section of the Power BI Service Home page.
If the "From External Orgs" Button Does Not Appear
Follow these steps to make the button appear:

Access Power BI Service
Open this link in your browser: Power BI Service.
Log in using your Microsoft credentials. -
Locate the EBM Workspace

In the left-hand menu, click on Workspaces.

Find and select the workspace EBM Software has shared with you.

Create a Temporary Report

Inside the EBM workspace, navigate to the Semantic Models section.

Click the ellipsis (⋮) next to any Semantic Model.

Select Create Report from the options menu.

Save the Report

In the blank report, go to the File menu and click Save.

Choose a destination workspace:

Do not select "My Workspace."

Select the EBM workspace shared with you.

Enter a name for the report and click Save.

Validate the "From External Orgs" Button

Log in to the standard Power BI Service link: Power BI Home.

Confirm the "From External Orgs" button is visible.

Clean Up
-
Return to the EBM workspace.

Delete the temporary report you created.

Using Power BI Desktop to Connect to EBM Datasets
If you prefer using Power BI Desktop, follow these steps to access EBM datasets:

Sign In with a Different Account

Open Power BI Desktop.

From the Profile menu, select Sign in with a different account.

Enter your Power BI username and choose the Work or School Account option.

Find Your Organization

At the Sign-In options prompt, select Sign in to an organization.

Enter "EBMSoftware.com" when prompted.

Access EBM Datasets

Navigate to Home → Get Data → Power BI Datasets (or Semantic Models, depending on your version).

Search for the desired Semantic Model and connect to it.

If prompted to log in again, select the Microsoft Account option and log in using the same credentials as before.

Terminology: Power BI uses "Semantic Models" and "Datasets" interchangeably.

Account Selection: Always ensure you use the correct work or school account when signing in.
